“Project Tribu” is actually a piece created from a school exercise where the author chose to work exclusively on designing characters that have unique characteristics differentiating one from the other in terms of body type, age, sex, and ethnicity. In the conceptual stages of this project, the author decided to dip into her personal experience in order to create characters that were authentic and unique from the stock characters that exist in plot-driven artwork.

Her knowledge of the indigenous tribes comes from the fact that she was born and raised in the Philippines until she moved from the country when she turned 18 to pursue studies in art and animation in the United States. Having seen the different tribal festivals that celebrated the diversity of the Filipino culture that continued to flourish despite centuries of western colonization growing up, she was able to then express this cultural identity in projecting it onto these characters to make them more authentic. The piece was created starting with a primitive cube in Maya and the author continued to add detail until she felt it was time to stop. After 3 months of work, this is the accumulation of what she has done so far. The stills were then composed in Photoshop and text was added to add some information about the tribes.
The author is currently studying in Prince George’s Community College in Maryland and is trying to exhaust all the art courses that the college offers before looking for a good school to transfer to or becoming a full time “arting starvist”.
Although many people disagree with her, she doesn’t consider herself an artist since there seem to be too many definitions of the word out there and she never seems to fit the description. She enjoys this art gig though, as it provides a continuous process of problem solving, making stuff, making molten metal trickle, cover walls (and self) with paint, playing with mud and other general frivolities that modern professionals are sadly deprived of.
Ultimately, the artist chose art because she feels that this is a field where she can be assured that she is investing the rest of her life in something that can give God alone the maximum amount of glory with the blessings that she has been given.
