Kingsport's First International Digital Art Show

The show will be in the second floor Gallery until December 20

Many thanks to all the wonderful people who made this show possible. We had the reception today Sunday December 2, 2007. Here are some of the photos of the reception.

A visitor admires an image from Jackson "Murphy" Randle entitled "And So It Begins."

Jessica Fisher, a reporter from the Kingsport Times News takes notes on Robert J.Tiess' Blender image "Doubtspore." Read her article in GoTriCities this Thursday, December 6,2007.

Ron Russom, reconnects with his Irish ancestry as he examines Irishman, David McMahon's image, "No Bats Allowed."

Renee Runion and Matt Runion study Dolf (Macouno) J. Veenvliet's images, of course made in Blender.

Helena Semchyshyn(on the left) brought some delicious cheeses and cookies and created the beautiful holiday arrangement. Thelma Wyatt made her famous punch and can be seen serving up another cup for Stefan Semchyshyn, while Brenda Bundrant arranges some of the wonderful treats that she brought. In the background on the left, can be seen an image provided by Robert Strgar from Slovenia. Be sure to visit his website to see more of his colorful images. The images on the far wall in the other room were provided by Lalla Zima.

A better look at Robert Strgar's image, "Euglena," made with Blender.

Dr. George Zima, Fran Huffaker, and Lalla Zima, chat about the exhibit. In the background is an image by Michael B.Fox. See more of his images and animations on his Online Gallery. Fran and Lalla also contributed to the delicious food at the reception.

Beth Estep takes a closer look at Michael Fox's "Final Escape," made with Blender and Make Human.

From Left to Right are: Markus Schulz, Cindy Schulz, Allen Davis, Renee Runion, Kim Davis, and Matt Runion.

Markus Schultz' Calculator created in Blender. Many of the viewers were unfamiliar with computer generated images and thought these were photographs. The images were explained to give the public a better understanding of Digital Art.

Allen Davis's images of the poster developed for the Bays Mountain Planetarium show, Sky Tellers which translates some of the native American stories of the cosmos, and a digital portrait of Edwin Hubble. Allen works with Lightwave, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop.

Elizabeth Hiebert, studies the images of Matt Runion created in Inkscape and Lightwave. He also works with Blender.

Just a few of the many images of Deborah Mann who also works as an artist at the Bays Mountain Park planetarium. These images were created for various shows developed at the Bays Mountain Park and the image of Andromeda for the 2006 Starfest T-shirt.

Yorik Van Havre, graced the show with a great variety of his Architectural images made in Blender. Most people had a surprised reaction that these were buildings that were created in the computer and may not even exist yet. One of the favorites of the show was the bridge in black and white that has been named "the dragon bridge," by those who wrote comments.

A few of my images created in Blender.

It was a lot of fun getting this show together and I am so thankful for all the help from everyone in the Kingsport Art Guild. Lots of thanks to the many artists who contributed content. Many thanks to Jeanette Hill for recording the event in the Kingsport Art Guild's archives. A special thanks to Joan Brown from QBS who helped with the printing. Also I am greatful for Margaret Helvey, and Lalla Zima, Brenda Bundrant, and Thelma Wyatt, for their help in planning the event. Thanks to all the people who brought food to the reception , and to Jim Lane who composed and recorded an original soundtrack for the show. Thanks also to Jay Church, Kingsport Art Guild President, for his encouragement and to Steven Reeves for his help in publicizing the event.

For those in other locations, I would encourage you to plan a show, for the public, in your area. Many people, especially those with out computers or internet connections, can come to see what this new technology is bringing to the arts and self expression, at shows like this.

Of course, if there is any thing I can do to help, please feel free to contact me.
